Outline questions

Situation

Your topic is now set, and you have already agreed on the rough chapter outline with your supervisor. Now, in a next step, you would like to discuss the outline and the synopsis with her/him.

Hintergrundinformation

A well-thought-out outline and a well-founded exposé are essential building blocks for the success of a thesis. The formal procedures for this are now taught in many degree programs in the first semester, usually in tutorials on scientific work. If this is not the case, you will have to find out about it on your own (e.g. on the homepage of your subject/programme). The consultation hour only serves to discuss the content of the outline with regard to the comprehensibility of the chain of argumentation as well as the scope of the content, etc.

Tip

Before you start writing a thesis, you should definitely go through your outline and exposé with your supervisor to make sure that your thoughts and reflections on the topic are stringent and meet the scientific demands placed on such a thesis.

It is worth investing time in this. Create your outline to the point where you can answer questions about your concept. Also think about where problems lie and what exactly you want to discuss with the lecturer. Email the outline and synopsis to your lecturer at least one week in advance. Remember to also include your full name, the title of the paper and the current date in the attachment to the email.
